The ‘Chillzone’ immersive interior is comprised of a custom mural and tectonic three-tiered seating bank ‘Iceberg’ with two ‘Growlers’, units that can be manipulated to reconfigure the three-dimensional composition. The project is simultaneously playful and sophisticated. Each choice of angle, colour and compositional relationship has been approached with consideration of the phenomenological and imaginative impact it can have on people of diverse ages. When viewed on approach from reception, it draws visitors to ATYP into a stunning world of dynamic chromatic colour, levels and motifs. Responding to the iconic scale and visual language of the Harbour Bridge and to the diagonal lay of the heritage timber floorboards, the Chillzone installation harnesses angular tectonic shapes to generate an atmosphere of alertness and possibility.

Working closely with mural artists Merryn Trevethan, and youth members of ATYP, Tobhiyah pursued the ethos of ‘Gesamtkunstwerk’  - a total work of art, with two-dimensional painted elements and three-dimensional custom furniture operating as a whole site-specific environment that encompasses the viewer as participant.
