“I would like to give you a message. Please do your best to tell the world what is happening to us children. So that other children don’t have to pass through this violence.”
A fifteen year old girl who escaped from the Lord’s Resistance Army in Uganda.
Lee Lewis directed this devised work at ATYP. The design used three materials; corn flour, paper and plastic buckets. The corn flour was used to mark young people as they were recruited into rebel forces.
A single figure laying on the theatre floor was blanketed in flour which fell from the grid, a visual metaphor for; loss, bodily harm, absence and transition. Bodies blasted into the pavements during the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombs triggered this design exploration.
